School Child Threatened With Fake Shotgun
A teacher has bravely stopped a woman after she threatened a child with a fake shotgun.
The woman had made her way into the playground of St Paul’s National School, Navan, before putting the shotgun to the head of a young boy. A teacher pushed her away and grabbed the gun before gardaí arrived at the scene. She was then arrested under the Mental Health act, gardaí confirmed.
The woman first approached parents who had arrived to collect their children from the school before she ran into the school. Witnesses said they knew the shotgun wasn't real from early on.
Patricia Fahy, Principal at St Paul's, said: "The local gardai dealt promptly with the matter and any upset was kept to a minimum. All pupils were reassured by the staff that everything was safe before leaving the school.
"Safety is a priority in our school. We are very, very conscious at all times, you try to be ready for everything ... we were delighted with the support of parents today that they contacted the gardai so readily."
Speaking about the woman, Mrs Fahy said: "The poor lady is ill, I'm not a psychiatrist but she was taken to hospital".
