Gang Member Tasered

A major figure in the continuing gang feud in Limerick has been arrested by gardaí.

The 46 year old man was apprehended, with the assistance of the Emergency response unit as part of the ongoing investigation in the area.

A Taser was used in the arrest for the first time in Ireland as gardaí made the arrest on the Rhebogue area of Limerick at around 10.45pm last night.

Gardaí suspected that the man was armed and after the arrest a loaded 9mm handgun was found with two magazines and 16 rounds of ammunition.

He was taken to Henry Street Garda Station, where he is being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

The man is said to a major player in the Keane-Collopy gang in Limerick and he is said to be one of the top 10 figures in the criminal feud.

Gardaí described last night's arrest as “significant”.

Heroin and cocaine, with an estimated street value of €1m, has been recovered in a house search in Ballyfermot on Tuesday. Gardaí arrested two men, aged in their 30s, at the scene after officers uncovered 13kgs of cocaine worth an estimated €900,000 and 1.5kgs of heroin, with an estimated value of €225,000.

Man Dies In Limerick Collision
A man has died in a crash in Co Limerick. The car veered off the road and hit a ditch at Dromsallagh at around 4.15am on Sunday, 05 June. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man is currently being treated for his injuries at the University Hospital Limerick. The road has been re-opened.

Missing 25-Year-Old Man Found 'Safe And Well'
A 25-year-old man who was missing from Harcourt Street in Dublin has been found safe and well, Gardaí have reported. Simon Quinn was reported missing after last being seen at around 2.30am on Monday, 30 July. However, Mr Quinn has now been found and Gardaí said they wish to thank the media and public for their assistance.
