Books Of Condolence Open For Former President
Several books of condolence are to open today as a mark of respect for former Irish President Patrick Hillery, who died at the weekend.
Dr Hillery died on Saturday following a short illness. He was 84 years of age.
Members of the public will be able to pay their respects at various locations in Dublin and in the former president's native County Clare
The books of condolence will be available at the Pro Cathedral and the Mansion House in Dublin, Ennis Library, the Paddy Hillery Library in Miltown Malbay and the Clare County Council offices in Ennis.
Dr Hillery's body is due to arrive at the Pro Cathedral on Tuesday, where he will lie in state under a state funeral on Wednesday.
Requiem Mass is due to take place at noon on Wednesday, with Dr Hillery being laid to rest at St Finians Cemetery in Sutton afterwards.
Patrick Hillery was President of Ireland between 1976-1990, before being succeeded by current president Mary Robinson

There is no scientific evidence to show that a ban on drinks sponsorship in sport will be beneficial, former GAA president Sean Kelly has said. Kelly, a Fine Gael MEP, told RTÉ’s Morning Ireland that the proposed ban is based on opinion rather than scientific evidence, adding that a ban would have a negative effect on sport in the long term.
