Tragedy Ends Search For Derry Man

There has been a tragic end to a missing person search with a body discovered in Inishowen, Co Donegal.

It was discovered in a forest in the scenic area.

It comes on foot of a major hunt for a missing Londonderry man Jim Rafferty.

The body was found in a wooded area near Grainne's Gap at around 8pm on Thursday night.

Mr. Rafferty, (43) who worked as a sacristan as St Brigid's Church, Carnhill, was last seen at 11 am on Saturday morning last.

Throughout last week family and friends have been searching for him in both Derry and Donegal.

Mr Rafferty, a father of one, was well thought of and respected in the community.

His sister Rose Crozier said: "He was known as a very reliable and responsible individual who neither drinks or smokes.

"He was well thought of and respected in the community. We have been overwhelmed with the response of his family and friends who helped us search for him."

Major Search Operation Ongoing For Missing Jet-Skier
A major search operation is ongoing on Lough Ree in the Midlands after a woman went missing while jet-sking. The operation was launched on Sunday evening after a woman failed to return to shore at the lake, which borders Westmeath and Longford. Irish Coast Guard Helicopter, RNLI crews, civil defence and sub-aqua clubs are involved in the operation.

Six Due In Court Over Cannabis Find
A total of six men are to appear court this Thursday morning over the seizure of €200,000 worth of cannabis. The men are to appear at Sligo District Court charged with drugs and immigration offences at 10.30 a.m. A total of eight people were arrested in connection with the seizure on Tuesday.

Eight Held After Cannabis Seizure
A total of eight people have been arrested after a drug raid by Gardaí on a house in Leitrim. Officers arrested seven males and one female after the discovery of cannabis plants, which have an estimated street value of approximately €200,000 pending analysis. Navy Ends Search For Cannabis
The Irish Navy has completed its search of an area off the coast of Co. Galway where bales of cannabis were discovered at the weekend. The LE Aisling spent Wednesday searching the area, using special sonar equipment to scan the seabed around 70 nautical miles west of Slyne Head.

Navy Dispatched To Search Area For Drugs
The Irish Navy is due to carry out a search of an area off the coast of Co. Galway, where bales of cannabis were discovered. Fishermen discovered eleven kilos of the drug as they fished 50km out to sea on Friday and Gardai and Customs were alerted. Three more packages were discovered by the same trawler the following day.
