Gang Killing Sparks Crackdown

The killing of a man in Dublin has sparked garda into cracking down on gang crimes.

Twelve men were arrested on Monday morning after the shooting of 30 year-old Anthony Russell on Friday evening in the Ardlea Inn, Artane.

A massive garda operation began shortly after 6am and involved 120 officers from the Special Detective Unit, National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Coolock gardai and other district detective units.

Gardaí investigating the fatal shooting believe it was linked to an ongoing feud between criminal gangs in the north Dublin inner city.

The victim of the shooting, who was a suspected drug dealer, was having a drink when two men in balaclavas entered the packed pub and fired shots from a handgun.

The men then left the scene in a silver Nissan car.

The critically injured man was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly before 10pm. The man, who has yet to be named, was from the Comcastle area of Kilmore in Dublin 5.
