Guinness Not Good For Workers

Workers at the famous St James's Gate Guinness brewery in Dublin are to begin voting on industrial action that could mean an all-out strike.

Guinness has reportedly revised the terms of a redundancy deal on offer as part of a restructuring plan, which could see up to 300 jobs being lost.

Reports this morning say the Guinness staff union will begin balloting its members over the redundancy terms dispute.

Union members have already voted by 98% to reject the revised redundancy terms, but the union said Guinness has refused to enter into negotiations on the changes.

The balloting process, which begins today, is expected to take about three weeks and the GSU executive will then meet to consider members' response and decide what action to take.

Fears have been expressed that a reorganisation of the company could see the closure of its Kilkenny, Waterford and Dundalk breweries, whose products include Budweiser, Carlsberg, Smithwicks and Harp.
