Post Mortem For Toddler Who Died On Flight

A post mortem is to be carried out on the body of a two-year-old girl who died on a transatlantic flight yesterday.

After the child fell ill mid-flight, the plane from Frankfurt to the United States was diverted to Shannon Airport complete with 300 people on board.

She was pronounced dead in Shannon despite efforts to resuscitate her on the plane and on the ground.

The girl and her family were part of a group of people from Eritrea and Ethiopia being relocated to the US as part of a repatriation programme.

Her relatives were interviewed by Gardai in Shannon yesterday before being put up in a hotel for the night.

Some of the passengers seated near the child were also questioned in an effort to find out what may have caused her death.
