Cork Man Killed In Pharmaceutical Plant Explosion
A man has died following an explosion at a chemical and pharmaceutical plant in Co Cork.
Three other men were also injured in the blast at the Cordon PharmaChem factory in Little Island. One of the men is understood to be in a serious condition.
An investigation is now underway into the cause of the explosion, which happened at around 1.30am on Monday Morning.
Gardaí and the Fire Service remain at the scene this morning and officials from the Health and Safety Authority are due to attend later today.
The incident follows another explosion and chemical spill at the plant in recent weeks.
Corden PharmaChem has been manufacturing active ingredients for the pharmaceutical industry since 1974 and employs 107 people.
Since the beginning of March there have been three incidents at the plant at Little Island. This morning's incident was the most serious.
Corden PharmaChem says it does not yet have specific information about what caused this morning's explosion or the damage it caused, but it is known the previous incidents at the plant involved the over pressurisation of a 200litre drum.
