Paedophile Abused Neighbour's Children For Ten Years
A paedophile has been jailed for 15 years for abusing his neighbour’s children over a decade.
Billy O'Brien from Curraghglass, Fermoy, pleaded guilty to sexually abusing eight local young girls over the 10-year period.
Cork Circuit Criminal Court was told that Billy O'Brien of Curraghglass, Fermoy, had shown no remorse for the suffering he had caused and believed he had done doing nothing wrong.
O'Brien, 62, had targeted girls as young as six, luring them into his home with a makeshift sweetshop and video games.
The eight young girls were abused between 1992 and 2001, with O'Brien admitting that he lost interest in his victims once they reached the age of 12.
The abuse came to light when one of O'Brien's victims saw him befriending a family with young daughters who had moved to the area. She warned the girls' mother, who went to gardaí.
Counsel for the defence said his client wished to apologise to his victims and was willing to sell his house upon his release from prison and move away.
The judge sentenced O'Brien to 15 years with the last three years suspended, on condition he leave Curraghglass when released.
