Gang Threatened Boy To Hide Magnum Hand Gun
A schoolboy was warned that "his head would be blown off" if he did not hide a loaded Magnum handgun for a criminal gang.
The boy, who was 15 at the time of the incident, was charged with possession of the weapon and three rounds of ammunition.
Limerick Juvenile Court cleared the now 17 year-old boy of the charges.
The court heard how the teenager was preyed upon by members of a Limerick city gang to take the lethal Magnum handgun, which had been used in previous gangland shootings, and a quantity of cannabis to conceal them for the gang.
Limerick Juvenile Court heard from Garda Adrian Whelan of Roxboro Garda Station that the Magnum handgun was "the most powerful revolver ever manufactured".
Gardai found the firearm along with the bullets and drugs in a garden shed at the rear of a house at Hyde Road, Ballinacurra Weston last March.
It is understood that the McCarthy-Dundon gang in the city instructed the teenager to hide the gun and drugs for them.
Mr Judge O’Donnell, noting the probation services report for the boy was very impressive, told the teenager he hoped his "life goes from strength to strength", but warned that he did not want to see the youth in court again.
