Women Take To Dublin's Streets For Mini Marathon

Over 40,000 women will hit the streets of Dublin on Monday for annual mini marathon.

The events participants hope to raise millions of euro for 400 different charities, with women taking part in the race from 3pm this afternoon.

The race starts at Fitzwilliam Square and continues over 10km en route to St Stephen's green.

The organisation hopes to top last year's total fundraising, by raising more than €14 million.

Gardaí and the Road service have warned motorists that traffic restrictions will be in place along the 10km route. There will be significant diversions to Dublin Bus services for much of the day.

The Cork City Marathon also takes place today. It begins at 9am and road closures will operate between 8am and 4pm through the city.

Patrick's Street will be closed from 6am until 7pm to facilitate the start and finish of the race.

Other closures will operate along the route over the day, including the Jack Lynch Tunnel, Mahon Flyover, South City Link Road and North Link Road.
