Irish Fishermen To Protest Over Fuel Costs
Fishermen are set to stage a demonstration outside the Dáil in Dublin to protest against the ever increasing fuel prices.
Fishing organisations from ports around the country are also planning to tie up their boats as the diesel price hike may mean the end of the line for some local fishermen.
The Federation of Irish Fishermen (FIF), who organised the protest, said "it is imperative that the Irish government takes a lead in addressing these urgent issues, as the industry cannot survive the current situation otherwise".
FIF Chairman Michael Walsh said: "Fishermen's patience at the current situation is stretched to breaking point. They are demanding a credible and early response from our Government. Only a demonstration of real commitment to the survival of the sector will suffice at this stage. FIF cannot over emphasise the depth of feeling within the industry on this issue."
The protest will take place between 12pm - 3pm today.
