McAleese To Back Warrington Peace Foundation
A centre for peace in England - built with local, national and international support as a living legacy and memorial to two young IRA bomb victims, is to get a fillip from the Irish President, Mary McAleese.
She is to visit the centre in Warrington, opened in memory of Tim Parry and Johnathan Parry, the two boys killed in a terrorist bombing in 1993.
The centre was opened on 20 March 2000, the 7th anniversary of the bombing, by the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace which has been running for 15 years - and has worked with 20,000 young people and adults to date.
Founder and Chair, Colin Parry - Tim's father - said he was delighted the Irish President had decided to visit.
"The Foundation was set up as a result of a terrorist attack and we now work with young people from different cultures, faiths and backgrounds, showing how conflict can be resolved non-violently," he said.
Mr Parry hopes the president will learn about the conflict resolution work the foundation has been undertaking.
Every year 4,000 people take part in its educational and leadership programmes and its 'Survivors for Peace' programme, which works with adults affected by terrorism or politically motivated violence, is networked across Europe
