Man Found Dead In 'Most Unusual' Circumstances

A senior garda has described the circumstances surrounding a man found dead in his apartment on Wednesday as "most unusual".

Detectives in the case say they are certain the victim, a separated father, was murdered despite no sign of a break-in, obvious injuries, indication of a weapon having been used or any suggestion of poisoning.

The apartment block in which the Dennis Brennan, 60, lived alone is a modern secure complex, leading gardaí to believe the victim knew his murderer.

Superintendent Thady Muldoon, of Kevin Street Garda Station, said: "There was nothing obvious, just perhaps an unusual, most unusual, way the deceased was found."

Up to 25 investigating officers are working on the case. It is hoped results from further tests on the body will advance the case as the post mortem examination already carried out by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis was inconclusive.

CCTV coverage, which is believed to be good in the complex and surrounding area, is being scoured by the murder team.
