Mother To Meet US Police Over Shooting

The mother of young Irishman who was shot and killed by police in the US last week is to meet with state police authorities on Friday.

Dorothea Hanlon-Carroll is travelling to Oregon to meet with Marion County District Attorney Walt Beglau following the death of her son Andrew Hanlon.

The 20 year-old's family claim Andrew was suffering from slight psychological problems, and was apparently shot after banging on doors near his sister's home in Silverton.

An American newspaper has claimed on Thursday that an anonymous witness passed an audiotape to Mr Hanlon's sister and brother-in-law, Melanie and Nathan Heise.

The recording is reported to state the young man was running barefoot, had stumbled and was attempting to get up when he was shot up to seven times by the police officer.

Doug Hansen, a deputy district attorney, said earlier his office expects to convene a grand jury on the June 30 shooting death once an investigation is completed.

Officer Gonzalez, who joined the police department in 2006, is on administrative leave.
