Guard Of Honour At Funeral Of Seamus Brennan

The funeral of former Irish Government Minister Séamus Brennan took place earlier this week in south Dublin.

The service was attended by the Irish President, the former and present Taoiseach along with many members of the Houses of the Oireachtas.

Mr Brennan died in the early hours of Wednesday morning following a year-long illnes.

A line of government ministers and TDs formed a guard of honour outside the church, including Tanaiste Mary Coughlan, Mary Hanafin, Willie O'Dea, Eamon O Cuiv, Chief Whip Pat Carey, former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and Albert Reynolds.

The parish priest of Dundrum, Fr Donal O’Doherty, who presided at last night's ceremony, said Mr Brennan was a happy man who had brought great happiness and "supported legislation and policies that enriched all our lives."

He expressed his condolences to the chief mourners, Mr Brennan’s wife, Ann, his children Shay, Dáire, Aoife, Breffni, Síne and Éanna, and the extended Brennan family.

Guests Locked In Hotel Fridge By Robbers
Two guests who awoke during a raid at a hotel in Co Wicklow were locked in a fridge by robbers. During the incident on Tuesday, a gang of masked armed men stormed the hotel and locked two guests in a large kitchen refrigerator while they raided cash tills. The men, brandishing iron bars and hurleys, burst into the Arklow Bay Hotel at around 5am.

Former Fianna Fail TD Seamus Brennan Dies At 60
The former Fianna Fáíl Government Minister Séamus Brennan has died in Dublin on Wednesday morning. He was 60. Mr Brennan died at his home in the early hours of the morning following a short illness, which he cited as reason for him to resign from his position in the Cabinet as Minister for Arts, Sports and Tourism in May.

Jewish Groups Slam Award For Robinson
A pro-Israeli lobby group has slammed the selection of former Irish President to be awarded a civic honour by Barack Obama. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) expressed concern at the award saying Mary Robinson was "anti-Israeli" and described her tenure on the UNHRC as "deeply flawed".

Former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds Dies Aged 81
Former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds has died aged 81. Reynolds, born in Rooskey, Co Roscommon, served as a minister in a number of governmental departments and was elected Taoiseach on two occasions. He has been honoured as playing an integral role in the Northern Ireland peace process. His death was announced by his eldest son, Philip Reynolds.
