Prison Officer In Court Over Supplying Contraband

A prison officer has appeared in court today in relation to the supply of contraband goods to prisoners in Mountjoy Prison.

Dillon O'Brien, aged 36, of Charnwood Meadows in Clonsilla, Dublin, was charged with 14 offences including bringing mobile phones, alcohol, cocaine and diamorphine to prisoners.

The charges relate to incidents which occurred between January 2005 and March 2007.

The 36-year-old is also charged with being in possession of cocaine contrary to the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Mr O'Brien - who was arrested at 6.50am this morning - was told by the court he would be sent forward for trial at the Circuit Criminal Court.

He was remanded on his own bail of €1,000 until August 26 and was ordered to sign on three times a week at Blanchardstown Garda Station.
