Rise In Chlamydia Cases: Report

The number of people testing positive for Chlamydia rose by 10% last year, according to a report.

The findings were published in the Dublin Well Woman Centre annual report.

The report shows that the number of clients who have attended the centre - which has three clinics in the capital - had increased five-fold in five years. Those wanting to be tested for Chlamydia had tripled.

According to the report, one in 20 of those who had undertaken tests were found to have the Sexually Transmitted Disease, with the infection particularly common in the under-25 age bracket.

The centre said that the balance and range of its services had changed over the last few years, reflecting Ireland's changing sexual health needs, adding that a national health strategy should be a top priority for the Government.
