Irishman Shot By US Police Buried
The funeral of the Dublin man shot dead by a US police officer early this month has taken place on Tuesday.
Andrew Hanlon's distraught mother and grandmother followed the coffin on its final journey in Dublin.
Investigations continue into the tragic shooting in Oregan of the 20-year-old who was said to be suffering from mental problems at the time he was killed.
Andrew is believed to have been shot while banging on doors trying to find his sister's home one night - allegedly being mistaken for a burglar.
Andrew's heartbroken grandmother asked why the man that killed him had to shoot seven bullets into an unarmed man: "Why use so many bullets? Who would put seven bullets into a man?" she asked.
"Could he not have shot him once in the leg? That would have taken him down. He might have ended up in hospital but we would still have him alive," she added.
The police officer who fired the shots which killed Andrew Hanlon was suspended immediately after the incident, three weeks ago.
He has since been charged over a separate incident of sexually abusing a young girl over a period of some years.
In memory of Andrew, his stepfather Justin paid tribute to him as a 20-year-old man who was trying to spread his wings.
"AJ had a gentle, kind, and almost naive enthusiasm for life.
"The last three weeks have been a nightmare for us," he said.
