Case Dropped Against Convicted Drug Dealer

A convicted drug dealer allegedly caught with €1.7 million worth of drugs has had the case against him dropped by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Kieran Boylan, 37, from Ardee, Co Louth, had the charges against him dropped following an unscheduled court hearing hours before the legal term finished last Thursday.

At the hearing, a barrister for the DPP said the decision to drop the charges had been made at a high level but did not elaborate further.

The Garda National Drugs Unit arrested Boylan at a truckers yard in Ardee in October 2005 as part of Operation Sword.

He was out on bail at the time facing other charges relating to a 2003 drugs haul at Dublin Port which was worth €750,000.
