Audit Says HSE Losing Millions In Bank Charges

A Government-commissioned audit is reported to have found that the Health Service Executive (HSE) is wasting more than €20m a year through bad financial management.

The study is said to have found that the HSE is losing around €2m a year in bank charges alone while their millions of euro resides in bank accounts that are not earning interest.

More Waste has also been found in the way claims are made to the private health organisation, VHi and in the processing of invoices.

The audit has also found around 1,000 people are managing the HSE's finances, with many of them carrying out the same duties.

The Labour Party Health Spokesperson Jan O'Sullivan said the wastage is disgraceful given the need for extra funding elsewhere in the health service.
