Cannabis Plants Seized
Cannabis plants have been recovered and Gardaí have arrested three people following raids on a number of houses in Longford and Roscommon - by coincidence at much the same time as similar raids in the North.
They suspected that cannabis was being cultivated with the Irish Republic raids carried out at around 7am in Castlerea, Strokestown and Drumlish.
Gardai say around €500,000 worth of cannabis was seized at the houses.
This afternoon, two men and a woman are still being questioned about the seizures at stations in Boyle, Roscommon and Longford.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, two men and a woman have been arrested after the discovery of a cannabis factory in Co Antrim.
They were arrested after a planned search of a house in the Marconi Park area of Ballycastle yesterday.
A PSNI spokesperson said officers seized a substantial number of cannabis plants and paraphernalia.
The men are aged 21 and 46 and the woman is 44.
It has also emerged today that police in the North have released a man arrested earlier this week in connection with the murder of south Armagh man Paul Quinn last year.
The man, who was detained in south Armagh on Tuesday morning, was the 11th person to be held in connection with the murder in just over a week.
All 11 have subsequently been released without charge.
Mr Quinn, aged 21, was beaten to death by a gang of men after being lured to a remote farm in Co Monaghan last October.
