Man In Jail For Having No Identity
A Carlow district judge has jailed a man who failed to provide any proof of his identity or place of residence.
Judge David Anderson put the legally nameless man in custody at a special sitting of Carlow District Court this week.
Immigration Garda John Dirreen from Kilkenny Garda Station arrested the Asian man calling himself Theim Win at 6 Deloughry Place, Kilkenny this week after Mr Win failed to produce a valid passport.
He also failed to produce any travel documents stating his identity or anything as proof of address.
Since his arrest, Mr Win has reportedly produced documents, which had yet to be verified by immigration authorities.
After the failure to produce certifiable evidence of his identity, Judge Anderson said: "In that case I will have to remand him in custody." The judge then set a deadline of August 19 for the man's identity to be verified.
