Warning Issued Over East Limerick Water Supply

Residents in parts of east Limerick are being warned against using their water for drinking, cooking or food preparation due to pollution concerns.

The Sanitary Authority issued the warning due to the presence of high nitrates, saying the water should not be used until further notice, except for flushing toilets and internal house plumbing.

The Authority is also asking the public to ensure that ice-cubes in fridges and freezers are discarded.

The areas affected are those serviced by the Rockhill public water supply in Ballyteige Upper, Ballyfookeen, Howardstown North, Cappanafaraha, Ballywillin, Ballyclough Upper, Ballyinoran, Garryfine, Knockaunavoddig, Garrane, Ballynoe, Mounteagle and Lotteragh Upper.

A Limerick County Council spokesperson said: "Rockhill is a small scheme serving approximately 340 persons and some 153 domestic and non-domestic connections. Limerick County Council’s Environment Laboratory are continuing to investigate."

Limerick Residents Could Be Without Safe Water For Up To A Year
A statement issued by Irish Water has revealed that some customers in Limerick City could be without usable water for up to a year. Letters were sent to some 356 households in Kilkeely on Tuesday warning residents not to use their water supply for drinking or preparing food, including baby formula feeds and ice cubes.

More Than Half Of Irish Water Customers Now Registered
More than half of Irish Water customers have been registered to date, the company confirmed. Some 760,500 households, or 56.3%, of those eligible for water charges are now registered.
