Photographer Claims Camera Damaged By Paedophile

A Donegal Democrat photographer has had his camera damaged by a known paedophile after spotting the sex offender at a boating ceremony.

Alexander Dalgleish, 36, a registered sex offender, noticed the photographer, Matt Britton, taking pictures at a boat blessing during the annual Mullinasole raft races near Donegal Town on Sunday evening.

Dalgleish was released on bail at Donegal Garda Station on his own undertaking to attend the local district court on September 3.

He is accused of damaging the camera of Donegal Democrat photographer Matt Britton during an incident.

Gardai are also investigating a complaint that he was assaulted by another person during a separate incident in Donegal town later on Sunday.

Six years ago, the former DJ was jailed for nine months in his native Britain for unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl and the indecent assault of another at a North Wales holiday camp.

Friends of Dalgleish yesterday claimed he was on his way back to the UK after spending the weekend in the county.

However, the Donegal Democrat said Dalgleish was living in Ireland, in breach of his bail conditions.

Reporting on the incident, journalist Diarmaid Doherty said: "He surfaced in Donegal almost two years ago under an alias.

"He was recognised by locals as a DJ who worked in the town and called himself Paul Williams and Small Paul."
