Dubliner Faces Brit In Olympic Medal Bout

Boxing Dubliner Ken Egan will be facing a British fighter in a medal decider in Beijing following his convincing win on Tuesday.

Irish boxing team captain, Kenny Egan, gave the big-hitting veteran Washington Silva a lesson in Olympic boxing, guaranteeing the Neilstown southpaw at least a bronze medal as he awaits his fight for silver on Friday.

Egan's opponent, Tony Jeffries, only scraped into the last eight with a victory against Eleider Alvarez on the countback system.

However, Jeffries took his third place match 10 – 2, confidently dispatching Hungary's Imre Szello.

A second medal is also certain for the Irish ream with Belfast's Paddy Barnes' quarter final win over Pole, Lukasz Maszczyk.

Light flyweight Barnes and light heavyweight Egan are assured at least a bronze medal but will fight for gold if they beat their semi-final opponents on Friday.

However, Barnes faces a tough fight against Chinese star, world champion, and weight division favourite, Zou Shiming.
