Raonaid Appeal Leads To Possible Breakthrough
Detectives investigating a girl's murder nine years ago are following up on a possible major breakthrough following a recent appeal.
A leading officer in the case has revealed that a number of new names have come to light following Monday's anniversary appeal into the murder of 17 year-old Raonaid Murray.
Gardaí are now combing through the fine details of the new information, which according to gardaí had not been made available to them during their original investigation.
Detective Inspector Eamon O'Reilly of Dun Laoghaire Garda Station told an Irish newspaper on Tuesday that the information is so fresh at this stage, it's impossible to say it would lead to a breakthrough in the case, but some calls had yielded "items that have never been disclosed to us before".
Raonaid's brutal and apparently motiveless murder occurred after she left Scott's Public House in Dun Laoghaire at 11.20pm after a Friday night out.
Her body was found later at Silchester Crescent in Glenageary at 12.40am, only 500 yards from her home. She was stabbed repeatedly in the side, chest and shoulder.
