Libertas To Enter Politics Proper
The Leader of anti-Lisbon group, Libertas, has revealed plans to turn the lobby group into a Euro-wide political party.
The millionaire businessman, Declan Ganley, said he was preparing the ground for an European election run and needed 30 MEPs across the continent to be fully effective.
Mr Ganley has come under fire for his continued refusal to say where Libertas was getting its funding from, or how much it spent on its anti-Lisbon campaign, although the group is not required to do so under present regulations.
The wealthy businessman has yet to provide names of any prospective candidates, or whether or not he intends to run himself.
Speaking outside a meeting in Brussels on Tuesday, Mr Ganley said: "I would find it difficult to (do so). I'm not a natural politician. I would be reluctant to. I don't feel like a politician. But I don't know what politicians feel like."
A final decision by the Group's leader on whether to go ahead with the plan is expected in January.
