Tallaght Triplet To Return Home For Recovery
The parents of little Jake Howe are expected to fly the four-year-old home this weekend for further brain scans in Dublin.
The Tallaght triplet fell into a coma on holiday in Ibiza almost a fortnight ago.
It is understood the boy almost drowned after toppling into a hotel swimming pool.
Jake woke from the coma on Tuesday, and his parents Declan Molloy and Michelle Howe now say they will return home, so their son can be cared for in a Dublin hospital.
Jake’s brothers Josh and Jamie have already returned to Ireland, and are said to be staying with relatives.
It is believed Irish doctors will carry out an MRI scan on the boy, to find out whether he has suffered brain damage.
However, doctors at Majorca's Son Dureta Hospital must first give Jake permission to fly home.
Yesterday, Mr Molloy said he wanted to get Jake back home in the next three to four days.
Mr Molloy said he had been told by Spanish hospital officials to discuss the matter with the family's insurance company, which he has done.
He said: "We can't fault the care Jake's received since he's been in Spain. But we want to be back in Ireland and reunited with the rest of our family.
"The next few days, if that happens, are all about making sure Jake stays stable and his condition doesn't worsen."
Mr Molloy described seeing his son regain consciousness as "wonderful", however, he said: "We still don't know whether he's suffered any long-term consequences from his accident and we won't know until after the new scan."
Jake, who fell into the pool on August 23, underwent a CT scan shortly after the accident, which showed no tell-tale signs of brain injury.
"We won't really know how Jake is until they do an MRI scan. We're not sure when it's going to happen but we're hoping it will be in the next few hours," said Jake's mother Ms Howe.
