Man Gets Seven Months For Indecent Pictures
A 21-year-old man has been jailed for seven months after taking indecent pictures of young women using his mobile phone.
Brendan Beatty, of Lenaboy Gardens, Salthill, Galway, pleaded guilty to several counts of using his phone to snap pictures up the skirts of young girls.
Beatty also pleaded guilty to engaging in insulting and abusive words or behaviour which was likely to lead to a breach of the peace at Boots, Shop Street, Galway, on November 14 last.
The court heard how Gardaí were called after a member of staff at Boots saw Beatty holding his mobile phone up under a young girl's skirt in the shop.
Beatty then assaulted a security guard who tried to stop him leaving the premises.
On November 20, Beatty was again caught holding his mobile phone under another young girl's skirt and taking pictures.
The third offence took place last St Stephen's Day, when Beatty approached a young woman walking alone at Salthill, Galway, at 6.30pm. He came up behind the woman and touched her legs and bottom.
Hearing the case, Judge Fahy discounted a psychologist's report offered by the defence, which suggested the defendant had a dysfunctional upbring, noting Beatty had only went for counselling in January - long after the offences occurred.
