Teenager Kicked Female Gardaí Officer In Face
A teenager is up for trial accused of attacking three gardaí officers - kicking one in the face - leaving her concussed.
The 17 year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has also been charged with using a stolen car, engaging in violent disorder and three counts of assaulting a gardaí officer.
The boy had already been given a six month sentence for car theft which led to a pursuit through north inner city Dublin.
The court heard how a member of gardaí and a female colleague attempted to arrest the boy at St Mary's Mansions, in north inner city Dublin on September 1, before being attacked.
A member of garda told Judge Bryan Smyth that the boy hit the female officer on the face and "kicked her on the ground in the face".
The sergeant was also attacked and sustained a broken nose when the boy was arrested three days later.
The 17 year-old denies both claims.
Judge Smyth remanded the teenager in custody for a further four weeks pending the DPP’s directions on whether the case is to be retained in the Children's Court or instead be sent forward to the Circuit Court, which on conviction can impose lengthier sentences.
