Cork Plant Announces 200 Job Cuts
Employees of an electronics firm in Cork have been told that over 200 employees will be shed as a result of increasing costs.
Staff at the Tyco Sensormatic are expected to attend a meeting with company bosses on Thursday morning where the extensive cuts will be detailed.
Tyco Sensormatic assembles electronic anti-theft tags attached to merchandise in stores. It currently employs 250 people at its plant on Model Farm Road on the outskirts of Cork city.
According to reports, production at the plant will now be outsourced and the plant will continue to operate with skeleton staff before eventually shutting down.
It is the second blow to the county this week following an announcement that 150 jobs are at risk at manufacturing firm Swissco.
Swissco has been operating in Little Island since 1974 and employs 154 full-time and part-time workers in the area.
In a statement issued by the company, Swissco's chiefs said it has not been profitable for some time and closing the plant seems the only viable option.
Staff at the food-processing facility were then told they could face redundancy, with only the possibility of relocation for some of the staff.

Investigation Launched Into Limerick Hospital Fire
An investigation has been launched into a fire at University Hospital Limerick over the weekend. A number of patients were evacuated from the hospital when the fire was spotted at around 18:45 on Saturday evening. It is understood that the fire began in a plant room, which is on the roof of one of the hospitals laboratories.

HMV Ireland Remain Closed Despite UK Move
HMV Ireland stores will remain closed and vouchers will not be accepted or honoured. This is despite a change in the UK where shops remain open and administrators have said gift vouchers will be accepted from tomorrow. Deloitte UK said that after assessing HMV's books, vouchers will now be honoured.

Dublin Water Restrictions To Continue Until 4 Nov
Water restrictions imposed in Dublin last night are expected to continue until Monday 4 November. The restrictions, which cause low pressure and loss of supply, will be in place each evening from 8pm until 7am. It is understood that the restrictions are the result of problems at Dublin's biggest water treatment plant, Ballymore Eustace.

Fears Mount Over 250 Job Losses In Cork
Early reports have surfaced suggesting a major Cork employer could be sacking all of its 250 workers. Tyco Sensormatic, which employs 250 people at its plant in Bishopstown, is reportedly examining its operations globally, and may be planning to relocate the Cork facility to a new plant in Mexico as soon as it has been built.
