Quarter Of HSE Backroom Staff Face Redundancy
A quarter of all Health Service Executive backroom staff are now facing redundancy following an announcement from the Health Service's Chief Executive.
Brendan Drumm, the HSE boss, made the announcement on the RTÉ Marian Finucane programme, where he said about 25% of the total backroom staff faced redundancy within the next year.
The revelation is further unwanted woes for the health service following weeks of negative press regarding a series of misdiagnosed cancer screenings.
An investigation has been ordered by the Minister for Health, Mary Harney at Ennis General Hospital, following the latest national breast cancer misdiagnosis scandal.
The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA), have been tasked with carrying out the investigation, where it will consider briefings from the Health Service Executive and discussions with the Minister for Health and Children and her officials.
The Authority believes that it is necessary to conduct such an investigation in order to review the quality of the services provided at Ennis General Hospital.
