Eight Health Chiefs Share €123,000 Bonus
Despite a year plagued with controversy in the Health Service Executive, eight of the top bosses have taken home a whopping €123,000 bonus.
At a HSE Reorganisation and Renumeration Committee hearing this week it emerged that the eight civil servants in the department received an average of €15,375 each under the performance award scheme.
The board was told the HSE Chief Brendan Drumm has made recommendations for bonuses for a number of national directors and set out awards for other senior managers.
It also emerged at the meeting that HSE staff are in line for another windfall this year, despite the health service facing cutbacks.
The bonuses come against a back-drop of a testing year for the service, which has seen accusations of inappropriately diverted funds, misaddressed confidential letters, data leaks and even blocking initiative homelessness.
The HSE has also suffered high profile protests and industrial action from nurses, pharmacists and ambulance crews.
