Arrest Made After 'Bomb' Removed Car By Army
Army bomb disposal experts were called last night called to an address in Dublin after a device was found in a car.
The suspected ordnance was found at an address in Marigold Court, Darndale, north Dublin shortly after 7pm, and the bomb disposal team were called in following a request from gardaí.
A spokesman said: "The device did contain explosive content."
The bomb disposal officer gave the all clear at 8.50pm and the remains of the device were taken away for further examination.
The Defence Forces said it will be handed over to Gardaí for investigation.
Gardaí in Dublin are now questioning a man this morning in connection with the discovery.
The man was initially detained near the scene of the incident.
The incident coincides with a Gardaí report that the use of explosive devices has increased by up to 300% in the capital.
Gardaí believe the increase is mostly due to the bitter drugs gang clashes in the city.
In 2007, 24 incidents involving grenades, pipe bombs or other improvised devices were reported in the Dublin area, this year so far, there have been 76 such incidents.
Earlier this week, traffic was diverted and buildings in the Charlemont Street of Dublin were evacuated last night while gardaí and the army dealt with a suspect device.
It was also later found to be a hoax after a bomb disposal unit was called into action.
The incident happened at around 8pm, when the package was found against a set of railings on the street.
The army examined the device with a remote control robot. The area was then declared safe and the remains of the package handed over for forensic examination.
