Gardaí Appeal After Security Van Robbery
Gardaí have launched an appeal for information following a robbery of a security van at gunpoint.
Gardai at Finglas are investigating the armed robbery of the van at Cappagh Post Office, Finglas, Dublin at approximately 4.20pm on Wednesday, and are appealing to the public for information.
Making the appeal, a Gardaí spokesman said: "The security van was making a lodgement when one of the security company employees was set upon by a gunman who stole a money-box containing an undisclosed amount of cash.
"The culprit made his getaway on a motorcycle driven by a waiting accomplice."
It has emerged that Gardaí already believe the stolen currency contained in the box is now in circulation in Dublin city. However, officers have revealed the notes are distinctive as they have been discoloured by a red security dye cocealed in the stolen container.
The spokesman added: "An Garda Siochana would urge members of the public and retailers alike to be on the look out for these notes and to immediately contact their local Garda station, Finglas Garda station 01-6667500 or the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111."
