Man Dies In Submerged 4X4
The body of a young man has been recovered from the sea after the vehicle he was travelling in plunged off a pier in Co Donegal.
A lorry driver who saw the vehicle drive into the water at around 1.40pm on Sunday initially raised the alarm.
After an intensive rescue operation, divers from the Killybegs Search and Rescue team recovered the body from the vehicle several hours later.
The body was then taken to Letterkenny General Hospital for a post mortem examination.
The dead man is believed to be from Glencolmcille in west Donegal. Gardai are not treating the death as suspicious.
The tragic incident coincides with another shock tragedy in Co Down, when a two year old girl was killed by a van in a busy shopping street.
Tatyana Jinga, who was just two years and ten months old, died after she was knocked down in Newry, Co Down just before 6.00pm on Saturday.
The toddler, who is believed to have lived in Belfast with her Zimbabwean parents, died later of her injuries. The incident is not being treated as a hit-and-run.
Speaking to the BBC, Tatyana’s father Thomas said: “She was a lovely girl, always happy.
"A lot of my friends and relatives are here to grieve with me and grieve with the family."
