Night Drivers Told To Watch Out For 'Trick-Or-Treaters'
Drivers across Ireland have been reminded to drive carefully this evening, as thousands of children up and down the country don dark Hallowe'en costumes, and set out trick-or-treating.
Safety bosses have told drivers to take extra caution due to the fewer day light hours - especially on their journeys home from work.
"With Halloween falling on a work day, and with children on mid-term break from school, more children than usual are likely to be on the streets and roads in the early evening, dressed in dark costumes or wearing masks, making it difficult for them to see and be seen," said a Road Safety Authority (RSA) spokesman.
Parents have been urged to make sure children carry torches and are accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.
"Motorists should be extra careful when driving as Children are excited and may forget safety rules.
"When driving in areas with children, slow down and watch out for them. Enter and exit driveways and laneways slowly and pay extra attention," added the RSA spokesman.
Bright coloured costumes will make children more visible to motorists, the RSA advised.
