Broadcasters Face Lisbon Committee

A number of high profile broadcasters have this morning faced the Oireachtas committee examining Ireland's rejection of the Lisbon Treaty.

Among them was well known pundit Eamon Dunphy who told the committee he didn't support the Treaty because it was deliberately designed to be incomprehensible to ordinary people.

He said the EU as a project had failed to explain itself to European citizens.

Rugby pundit George Hook told the Committee that the treaty was defeated because of misinformation and because the Government failed to communicate with voters. George had chaired public meetings for Fine Gael in the run up to the referendum

'The Apprentice' presenter and well-known businessman Bill Cullen seconded Mr Hooks views, saying supporters of the treaty did not help voters "to buy into Europe".

Pressure is beginning to mount on the Government, who are expected to deliver a proposal on how to get through the current
