Investigation Launched Into Hanged Prisoner
Following the death of a young criminal who was found hanged in the laundry room of a prison a number of investigations are under way to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
The 25-year-old victim, from Donegal town, was serving a five-year sentence for aggravated burglary.
Staff found his body in the laundry area of Loughan House Open Prison in Blacklion, Co Cavan, on Sunday after they noticed he was missing from his cell.
Prison officials said last night there had been no signs that the man was likely to harm himself and he was not under special watch.
Gardai and the prison authorities are carrying out investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death.
However, early indications from investigators suggest they are satisfied that nobody else was involved in the incident.
