Galway Accident Fatal
There's been another fatal accident this morning.
A man has died and a woman injured in a collision in Galway city's Sean Mulvoy Road.
This is one of the main link roads on the north side of the city, and the crash happened shortly before 9am.
The man who died was the driver of one of three cars involved in the collision.
He is believed to be in his 20s. Gardaí say he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the second car escaped uninjured but a passenger in a third car involved in the crash was taken to Galway University Hospital.
Gardaí say she has serious injuries.
The scene of the collision between the Headford Road and the Tuam Road is now closed and is being examined by members of the Accident Investigation Unit.
Gardaí are asking motorists to avoid the area as there are long delays and detours.
An elderly woman died yesterday after being knocked down by a lorry as she crossed the road in Charleville in Co Cork.
Meanwhile, this year's road safety initiative is to focus on young men.
Assistant Garda Commissioner Eddie Rock has said he is concerned about the increase in the number of men aged between 19 and 24 being killed on the roads.
The road safety initiative will see hundreds of gardaí deployed across the country in an effort to cut road deaths and detect drink and drug driving as Christmas approaches.
