One Dead And One Injured In Dublin Shooting
One man has been killed and another seriously injured in what is thought to be a drug-related gun attack in Dublin.
Gardai are investigating the shooting incident, which occured at Summerhill in Dublin at 8.40pm last night. Gardai were called to the scene following the report of a traffic collision and found two men injured in a car.
It is believed that a gunman who was sitting in the back seat of the car shot both of the men in the head. The car they were driving then rolled across the road and crashed into the central median.
The killer got out of the car and made his escape through nearby Gloucester Place.
The men, who are in their late twenties and early thirties were taken by ambulance to St James’s and the Mater Hospitals. The injured man who was taken to The Mater was subsequently pronounced dead. The other man is described as seriously injured.
The dead man has been identified as Micael 'Roly' Cronin, Mr Cronin was jailed for 13 years for heroin dealing, and was released four years ago. According to reports, Mr Cronin has escaped three previous attempts on his life.
The area is sealed off for forensic examination and an investigation is underway.
Gardaí are to hold a special briefing on the incident later today.
Meanwhile, drugs seizures are again featuring in separate news as police raids on both sides of the border hit those suspected of involvement in the illegal trade.
An 18-year-old man has been charged with production of cannabis, possession of a Class C drug and possession of an offensive weapon.
The charges are connected to the discovery of a number of cannabis plants and a stun gun at a house in Twinbrook in Co Antrim on Tuesday. He is due to appear before Lisburn Magistrates Court on 3 February.
A man has also been arrested as drugs were seized in Dublin. Heroin with an estimated street value of €100,000 has been recovered by gardaí and a man in his early 40s was arrested on Monday following a search of premises in Benburb Street, near the city centre.
