'Iron Horse' Thieves Gallop Off
Bungling thieves who unsuccessfully tried to make off with a tractor in Co Donegal took to four legs instead - making off on a stolen pony.
The culprits made good their escape on horseback with the loss only being discovered earlier this week at a smallholding at Mill Brae outside Stranorlar.
Owner Joe McGlinchey discovered the loss and later discovered an attempt had been made to steal his tractor.
While counting his blessings that the valuable tractor remained intact, his Connemara pony, called Snowy, has also now been found in Ballybofey.
"I went up to investigate and it was my pony alright," said Mr McGlinchey.
"Later on that evening, someone came into the yard and said they saw the pony being ridden up the road with two fellas on its back," he told the BBC.
"We were all in the yard thinking it was very strange, and wondering why the tractor wasn't stolen.
"We then looked at the tractor and found the tractor was vandalised.
"They had tried to hot-wire it and pulled the whole dash out of it and broke the dash," he said.
"They then turned to the pony - it was very unusual. They didn't saddle it up, they didn't even take the cover off it. It must have been some set-up," he said.
