Two Killed On Weekend Roads
Two men have died on Ireland's roads this weekend, following warnings of poor driving conditions.
One man, who was the driver (aged 23 years), was killed while two others were seriously injured, when the silver BMW car they were travelling in crashed into an entrance pillar.
Gardaí are investigating the fatal collision, which occured on the Dooradoyle Road, in Limerick yesterday at about 2.15 am.
The injured men are both in their late teens and were taken by ambulance to the Mid Western Regional Hospital.
The road at the scene of the crash is now open.
Meanwhile, Gardaí at Abbeyleix are investigating another single vehicle fatal road collision that occurred on Friday at approximately 10.30pm on the Carlow to Portlaoise Road (N80) about 3km from Carlow.
A 41-year-old male passenger was fatally injured when the car he was travelling in collided with a wall. The other occupant was injured and taken to St. Lukes Hospital, Kilkenny along with the fatally injured driver.
The road was closed as Gardaí Forensic Collision Investigators examined the scene.
The man has since been named as Michael Dowling, previously of Kilcullen Co. Kildare and with a current address in Crosseen Co. Carlow.
The exact scene of the collision was on the N80 at Derrymoyle which is approximately 3km from Carlow.
In other roads' related news, Gardaí in Terenure are renewing their appeal for witnesses in relation to the fatal collision at the junction of Harolds Cross Bridge and Wharton Terrace in Dublin when a male cyclist in his 30s was fatally injured after he was involved in a collision with a cement truck.
The accident occured at approximately 10.30am on Wednesday 14th of January. Nobody else was injured in the crash.
Gardaí are asking for anyone who may have information on any of the above incidents to contact them.

It has been a tragic 48-hours on the roads, both North and South of the Border. News of the latest five deaths on NI road accidents over the weekend has pushed the number of those killed to 78 this year. Up to this date in 2008, the figure was lower, at 73.

Three Killed On Roads Over Weekend
A total of three deaths have occurred on Irish roads over the weekend. In the first incident, a female driver in her 50s was fatally injured when her car collided with another vehicle and a third vehicle was also involved. Two other people were injured, their injuries are not described as life threatening.

A male in his 20s was fatally injured when the car he was driving lost control and left the road in Co Limerick. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the sole occupant and no other vehicle was involved. The incident occurred at approximately 6.

NRA Call For Introduction Of Additional Tolls On M50
The National Roads Authority (NRA) has called for the introduction of more tolls on the M50 in an effort to address gridlock on the countries busiest road. The NRA said that "effective measures" were needed to address congestion on the M50, and that traffic control decisions needed to be "taken now".

After 16 months of construction and an investment of €26 million, the N5 Longford Bypass opens 2 months ahead of schedule. Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Leo Varadkar, welcomed the opening of the N5 Longford Bypass.
