Man Shot During Security Van Robbery

A man has been shot and injured during the attempted robbery of a security van by masked men in Dublin this morning.

Gardai at Clontarf are investigating the attempted armed robbery, which occurred at about 7.45am this morning at the Vernon Avenue/ Clontarf Road junction in Dublin.

According to a Gardaí spokesman: "Three masked raiders attempted to rob a security van, which was delivering cash at an ATM. At least one shot was fired during the incident and an employee of the security company was injured in the foot. The three raiders fled the scene empty handed"

The injured man, who is in his mid twenties, was taken to The Mater Hospital for treatment.

Crime scene examiners have closed the road temporarily while the scene is technically examined.

Garda at Clontarf are asking anyone who was in the area to contact them on 01 666 4800.

Shot Fired During Bungled Security Van Raid
Four men have been arrested following a bungled raid on a security van at a post office in Dublin today. Gardaí in Store Street made the arrests after the attempted robbery at a post office on Church Road, East Wall, Dublin 3 at approximately 9.20am this morning. During the incident, a masked raider entered the post office armed with a firearm.

Charge Over Fatal Flag Fracas
A man has been charged in the North with the attempted murder of Damien Fleming, who was seriously injured during sectarian violence in Coleraine, Co Londonderry last year. Catholic Kevin McDaid was killed when trouble flared on the Somerset Drive estate over the erecting of Nationalist flags.

Charges Follow Shell Protest
Eight people have been arrested following a protest at the Shell compound in Glengad, Co Mayo. The arrests were made after over 100 protestors took part in a demonstration against the work of the Shell facility in the area, and some attempted to gain entry through security fencing.
