Schoolgirl Road Tragedy Stuns Limerick
A young teenage girl has died in a road accident while on her way to school this morning in Limerick.
The as yet unnamed 13-year-old schoolgirl died after she was struck by a car just outside Limerick city.
Gardaí investigating the accident say the girl was crossing the carriageway on the main Ballyneety-Limerick road near the Cat's Cradle pub to go to the school bus stop when she was struck by a car.
The accident happened shortly before 8am this morning and the girl was taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital. Tragically, she died a short time later.
Gardaí at Roxboro were this morning investigating the incident and the road has been closed while they examine the scene and carry out inquiries into the accident.
Drivers are being advised to avoid the area around the Old Cork Road while they carry out a forensic examination of the scene.
Meanwhile, Gardaí in Co Meath are appealing for witnesses to a fatal accident in Kells yesterday morning in which a 30-year-old man died.
Gediminas Karpavicius was killed when he was struck by a car in Mullaghhay, Carlanstown, at about 5am yesterday.
Gardaí say they are particularly anxious to speak to the driver of a truck who passed the scene just before the collision.
They are asking the driver to contact them at Kells Garda Station on 046-9280820 or the Garda Confidential Number 1-800-666-111.

Missing Man Body Recovered From Lake
The body of missing Crossmaglen man Padraig Campbell has been found. The 37-year-old’s body was recovered from a lake in Co Monaghon last night. Campbell, of Drumbroy Road, Castleblaney, has been missing from the 18 March. Gardai have described his death as a tragic accident, however a post-mortem will be carried out.
