Taxi Protestors Hail Regulator

Dublin taxi drivers are today staging protests urging a clamp-down of the issuing of taxi licences.

The drivers are making their voices known at Dublin Airport, at the Dail and at the office of the Taxi Regulator in Dublin as part of the campaign.

Hundreds of taxi drivers are protesting outside the Regulators' premises demanding change.

The demonstration is taking place as part of a campaign for a cap on the number of new licences being issued.

They say there are currently too many taxis on the roads and drivers are unable to make a decent living without working up to 80 hours-a-week.

They said that promises to improve the situation hadn't transpired and there was instead a free-for-all in the taxi industry.
