Pipe Bomb Defused In Dublin

Army bomb disposal experts have carried out a controlled explosion on a pipe bomb hidden underneath a car in west Dublin.

In just the latest such incident, gardaí were alerted to the device in Ballyfermot at around 8.30am on Monday.

The Defence Forces' bomb disposal team were called to the scene at Blackditch Road.

The Army said it made safe what it described as a viable improvised explosive device found under the private car.

"A controlled explosion was carried out and the scene was declared safe at 11.30am," said an Army spokesman, who noted that the device will be handed over to gardaí for investigation into the incident.

There have been a number of such incidents in the Dublin area with criminal gangs being blamed for the potentially deadly incidents.

Such devices are often found to have been planted by a criminal gang in Dublin - the increasingly violent actions of gangland figures continues to cause concern.
