One Dead, Two Injured As Icy Conditions Persist

Motorists are being advised to drive with care today following a tragic accident on the icy roads.

As freezing temperatures persist across the country, a 26-year-old man was killed in a road accident in the North

Two other people were injured when the car they were travelling in crashed off the main A29 road between Dungannon and Cookstown in Co Tyrone at around 5.30am.

Icy patches are being reported on many roads nationwide and Met Éireann says the cold snap will continue for much of this week.

A spokesman at Met Eireann said there was a possibility of further snow affecting southern areas today.

AA Roadwatch have also issued a statement on the current treacherous conditions.

"Continue to drive with extra care due to icy conditions lingering in parts of Leinster and Ulster and also Connaught. Motorists are strongly advised to reduce your speed and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you," a spokesman said.
