Murder Of Man Breaks Gangland Calm
The recent two weeks of relative calm amongst Dublin's gangs has been broken by the fatal shooting of a man.
The 30-year-old man had been sitting in a car at Melrose Park in Clondalkin when he was shot from outside the car shortly after 8.30pm yesterday evening.
He was taken to Tallaght Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.
Gardai in Clondalkin in Dublin are investigating the shooting.
Reports this morning suggest the man was involved with criminal gangs in the area and was a heroin addict who was well known to Gardaí.
A second man who was in the car at the time is not believed to have been injured.
Gardaí are investigating reports that the gunman escaped the scene on either a bicycle or motorbike.
Gardaí investigating the murder sealed off the area and a full forensic examination by members of the Garda Technical Bureau was due to begin this morning.
The attack comes following a considerable ebb in such incidents.
January saw an upsurge in mostly drug related shootings, with 10 men shot, four of them fatally, in a two-week period.
